HK Arts Festival Round-up
Here are the brief note from three programs:
Keith Chan Fai-young, the 12 Faces of Woman
12 short films with live music performance, frankly the whole show is only on average. To be fair, Mr. Chan beat down many local canto-pop composers... For me the most impressive session is Ho-Cheung Pang's. The music matches the visual quite well. it tells a relationship involves pain, but we still go on.
On and On Theatre Workshop, Tian Gong Kai Wu: A Practical Guide to Imaginary Inventions
Based on Dung Kai-cheung's award-winning novel Tian Gong Kai Wu, Xu Xu Ru Zhen (Works and Creation), the story shows a history of family industry, along with history of Hong Kong. Don't be fool that it is a nostalgia of so-called 'Collective Memory', which is hot topic in the town. The story-teller questions those 'Collective Memory' are really 'our' memory ... When they become object, are they still 'memory' in our mind ... quite thought-provoking point...
Lost Village
It tells an archaeological discovery in a remote village in China that attracts people with different intentions there. Stage production is quite good, with the removal of cloth, another act starts. However, i lost track at the middle of performance. More than one conversations are made instantly, we cannot concentrate (also due to my weak Putongua). The screen cannot translate both conversations at that time ... Anyway i can have more understanding of Japanese culture as the drama portraits a Japanese girl and her family members. step- mother tries to bridge the gap between daughter and father.
