Luis Buñuel's An Andalusian Dog, The Golden Age & Simon of the Desert

Un chien andalou (An Andalusian Dog) (1929)

Âge d'or (The Golden Age) (1930)
Simón del desierto (Simon of the Desert) (1965)

Being late by heavy traffic, i missed the first ten mintues' screening of "An Andalusian Dog". It seems there is not exact story behind, only fragments of clips brings together. And those visual effects influence some movie makers later. Interestingly, in Wikipedia's entry, the moth appeared in the final scene is similar as that in the Silence of the Lambs

Theatrical Poster of the Silence of the Lambs

The screening continued with the Golden Age. The short film seems about two lovers being separated by others. Finally they can re-united ... but ends with some unexpected ending. Audience are getting impatient as there are so much unrelated side-tracks in the film.

The last film Simon of the Desert finally got complete storyline. The film adapted the story of Symeon the Stylite. The film leads audience question on religion. For example, a man asked Simon give him hands as his hands were cut off. After Simon prayed for God and fulfilled that man's wish, the man seemed not show gratitude towards god's gift. Then his loyalty was questioned by his followers. He was isolated and no one understood him, only the devil. Finally the devil took him to New York and experienced a new life.

Simon: What's this dance called?
The Devil: "Radioactive Flesh." It's the latest - and the last!

The audience are shocked by the ending. But i think it is good.

Interpol's "No I in Threesome"

Feel excited by the video, it leaves us lots of thought afterwards. Like, the timeline of story, whether it is mirror image or real image ...
In this blog, someone reminds us Andrei Tarkovsky: he is one of my all-time favourite director. Then I search thru the net and see if there is any similarity...

Here is a clip of "The Mirror":

Also I found an article, which is about the significance of home in artistic creation. The article does mention Tarkovsky. Read if you have time.

Interpol Goes Classical

Before listening to the "Mammoth" single, I read review from Interpolonline. The writer seems have positive opinion towards "Pioneer to the Falls (Orchestral)". I have listened to it and quite enjoy with the flow of music. Just imagine Paul sings live in a little ballroom. People there dress nice and dance waltz.

At the same time, i do agree that a "new" song is better than a remix ... Also from the previous single, the song which became "Orchestral" would be the next single. Therefore, it is possible that "Pioneer to the Falls" would be their next single ...

Control Biopic of Ian Curtis

As i said before , Ian made his own dramatic life. And he was not deserved to be a legend (... if his widow's account was correct...).

Now based on Deborah's "Touching from a Distance", renowned photographer Anton Corbijn made his debut film, namely "Control". After viewing from trailer, Anton got the opposite interpretation of Deborah's work. He shows sympathy to Ian. Well, i really want to know what Deborah feel about the film... anyway, i look forwards seeing the film. as the film is in b/w ... i adore it...

Besides a book Closer to Controlis due to release which document the whole process of film making.First time seeing the cover, i thought it was Ian. But it is not ... I think Sam Riley make a good job.
