Now HKIFF seems went more commercial. Most of the films they chose are so gimmick. Like these one.

When I arrived, most audience wear trendy clothes. They wanted the film can nourish their mind to become more fashionable. However, these film does not teach you how to wear clothes, but a way of living who under a spotlight.


Karl Lagerfeld who is the mastermind of chanel and Fendi. Living in a way that many people admire. In this film, he tells you "Fashion is not the way most people think". In the film there is a number of his interesting quotes like "if you feel uncomfortable with injustice, don't went into fashion industry"; "i hate people who cannot be alone" ... after viewing the film, you have to convinced yourself that some elements maybe created by the directer himself.

Outside the venue, Chanel's mobile art exhibition is just held nearby. such a coincidence ... under the control of Lord Lagerfeld ...

The Tracey Fragments

Some of viewers chose this film is because of her another film "Juno" so do I. Those Mondrian multi-frame compositions and soundtracks by broken Social Scene makes the film more stylish.

Very normal plot: Tracey Berkowitz ("Tracey Berkowitz, 15. Just like a normal girl who hate herself. ") has unhappy school and family life. One day her brother Sonny gone missing. And she started a journey finding his brother.

The film does not went in order, it progresses with Tracey's monologue. During Tracey speaks something, another frame on the shows us that scene. Those flashing frame gives us a whole picture of Tracey's life.


I am not say it is a masterpiece, though. I enjoy viewing it. The soundtracks are so cool. The music lead me to the mind of Tracey. And remind me those day when I was young...

Cassandra's Dream

The reason i watch this film is Woody's previous one "Scoop", which lol to me. A chemistry is made between Woody and Scarlett Johansson. Scarlett's acting appeals me. Then I expect Woody's next film continue this kind of style ...

But out of my expectation, he tell story very seriously, with sad ending. This film is similar to his film "Match Point": making a fortune. What makes me sad is, in the film always stresses that America dream. You are just nothing if you stay in England... Poor ... Well, it is correct as the two main characters (Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell) now mainly starring in Hollywood films.

Cassandra's Dream, Scoop and Match Point can be treated as Woody's England trilogy. Gotta watch them at the same time.
